3 Daughters Brewery, Bimini Twist IPA

It’s a warm Saturday afternoon in early April 2016.  A perfect day to work in the garden for a little while before taking a break and drinking a nice cold tasty beer.

My choice for this Saturday afternoon is Bimini Twist IPA canned by 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg, Florida.  The picture is taken in Leny’s flower garden in the back section of El Paraiso.  Behind the can is a flowering Milk Weed which attracts Monarch butterflies to the garden. After taking the photograph, I sat on our garden bench and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the garden while sipping the beer.

The six-pack from which this can came was purchased at a large Publix in Valrico, FL.  It was a little difficult to find Florida beers in this store, except for Jai Alai, but I eventually found this on a side shelf.

It was worth searching for.  The can says “Don’t let this one get away.  A slight hint of citrus from the hops makes this India Pale Ale as refreshing as a Bimini sea breeze.  It’s a catch worthy of a rollicking fish tale.  Definitely a keeper.” Now there must be a story behind this name, I’ll have to make a visit to the brewery to find out what that story is.

For the moment, let’s concentrate on the beer.  It’s fairly strong at 7% alcohol and has a nice, but not too strong, taste of hops. It’s more a beer for sipping than chugging. Take it slowly and savor the taste, you will not be disappointed.

The web site says, and who am I to argue with this description: “unfiltered, copper colored IPA with intense citrus and floral hop aroma and flavor that is balanced by sweet caramel malts with a clean hop bitter finish,”

It is a great beer to accompany a quiet half hour watching and listening to the Cardinals and Blue Jays and Red Wing Blackbirds and Grackles cavort and flit from branch to branch and feeder to feeder, with an occasional stop at one of the bird baths.  But Monarchs were nowhere to be seen on this afternoon, I waited vainly for a Monarch to alight on the Milk Weed.  Perhaps they will stop by later.
