Beer 387 - River Horse Tripel Horse (2.5 stars out of 5)

Brewed and bottled by River Horse Brewing Co, Lambertville, NJ. The last of the beers bought at a convenience store in Little Italy, NY and drunk warm in the Fairview hotel on 37th Street in New York as I used their computer to print boarding passes for our flight home.  As most people know, it is no longer permissible to take liquids through security checks at the airport and the only way to carry beers back to Houston is to put them in your checked luggage.  I did not want to check my bags so had to drink the last of the bottles before we got to the airport.

We are packing our bags and getting ready to leave New York after a fabulous four days.  We are tired and sore of feet, but have seen lots and enjoyed every minute.  The Fairview Hotel is in a great location and the staff have been very helpful, I’d recommend this hotel for the price.

The web site needs a lot of work:  http://riverhorse.com/

The bottle says “Notice a unique aromatic nose with a hint of vanilla esters, which comes from the Belgian ale yeast. Tripel Horse has a big body and rich mouth feel and finishes mostly dry with only a touch of sweetness. If you shy from some of the sweeter Belgian ales, we think you will enjoy this one. The palate improves with age, so keep some on hand and you can ride Tripel Horse down a new path with each opened bottle.

A little too much hop character for me. The hops added too much bitterness to make the beer really enjoyable, but perhaps I did not do it justice as the bottle was at room temperature of around 75 degrees.

320 people have rated the beer at RateBeer.com (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/river-horse-tripel-horse/21662/ ) and gave it an average 0f 3.35 which puts it at the 86th percentile overall, and the 71st percentile in its style of Abbey Tripel

212 people reviewed the beer at BeerAdvocate.com (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/877/20889 ) and gave it an average score of 3.73 which equates to a B or good.
