Beer 370 - Lucky Buddha (2.5 stars out of 5)

Brewed and bottled by Cheerday Brewery, Chunan County, Zhejiang Province, China.  Wikepedia says this is the Hangzhou Qiandaohu Beer Co., Ltd, in which the Japanese brewery Kirin owns a 25% stake. Bought this beer in a six pack at Randall's store near the Galleria and drank is at home in Katy, TX while preparing dinner of turkey sausage, broccoli and mushrooms in mushroom soup sauce to be added to bow-tie pasta.  We also ate almost the last of the tomatoes grown in the back yard.
The brewery web site (in Chinese): http://www.qdhbeer.com/product.asp
The US importers web site: http://www.sabemosbeverages.com/

The Sabemos web site says: "This is a true Asian-style lager, with a memorable flavor that is natural, clean and fresh.
Lucky Buddha is brewed and bottled at the Lake of a thousand islands in China, fusing the finest quality malt, hops, rice and water from this pristine region, delivering a truly enlightened brew.
Lucky Buddha is a natural fit for Asian flavors such as spicy curry, but shines with all cuisine… it is definitely an all-occasion lager! 4.8% ABV"

I found the beer to be light and quite devoid of flavor.   The bottle was amazing, molded with a Buddha image in the folds of the glass, the look and feel of the bottle were nothing like I'd seen before in a beer bottle.  Unfortunately, the volume of the bottle was only 11.16 fl oz, so that is how they saved a little bit of the money to pay for the bottle mold.  Not one to come back to, though I still have four bottles to drink

  1. Had a customer give one for me to drink.
The price here in Calgary, AB, is 17.95 for a six pack. That includes taxes.

Be interesting to try as I have had all the Asian Beers that you can find in Canada.

  2. So, I chilled, opened and tasted this beer.

Found to be light in taste, it is a light beer; but in the after taste that is where it counts.

Was very refreshing and fulfilling as a thirst quencher, with out the big hard malt taste, and buzz. Price is too much for this Brand, maybe when it becomes more popular, like the other Asian Beers it will be better priced.

A shot of lemon or lime in this beer would make it a perfect summer beer for camping!
