Beer 346 - Ranger Creek Oatmeal Pale Ale (3.5 stars out of 5)

Brewed and kegged by Ranger Creek Brewing Co, San Antonio, TX.  Bought and drunk with lunch at the Esquire Tavern on the River Walk in San Antonio, TX.  A pleasant bar with a limited amount of bar type food, the bar says it is the oldest bar on the River walk and the web site boasts of "boasts the longest wooden bar top in Texas - over 100 feet of beer-soaked wood rubbed smooth by the elbows of a zillion tipplers."  The Bison burger I ate and the sirloin burger Patricia ate were both very good, though it was a little strange to have them both served with pickled cauliflower and pickled carrot in lieu of fries.

The web site says "A central Texas take on the classic American style, Ranger Creek OPA is an American Pale Ale at heart that has new dimensions of flavor imparted by oats. It has smooth, sweet, and toasty malt flavors with an underlying creamy nuttiness from the oats. The malt profile is balanced nicely by U.S. grown Centennial and Amarillo hops. The nose and finish are full of toasted coconut, pineapple, lime zest, apricot, and herbaceous spice, making this beer pair well with Thai food, a juicy hamburger with sharp cheddar, and oatmeal cookies."

I enjoyed the beer with my bison burger and cheese, the beer and the burger went well together, though the 'special sauce' on the bison burger sweetened things up a little.  Nice body, small head, and good taste that was slightly sharp as a pale ale should be.
