Beer 008 - Budweisser Select 55

July 26th, 2010

Budweiser Select 55 calories, brewed by Budweisser in the USA, probably at their enormous brewery on the ship channel in Houston.  Left by Stephen in the fridge in the Pearland house when he and Nicola went back to the UK so not being one to waste a good opportunity I took a can back home to Katy and drank the beer while waiting for rice to cook. The can says "Freshest taste within 120 days of born on date of 17 Mar 2010 so I almost made, but the exta 5 or 6 days shouldn't make a difference. There us nothing about alcohol content on the can, but http://www.beer100.com/ says it is 2.4% alcohol by volume.
The first taste out of the fridge is of fizzy water flavored with hard nuts - walnuts perhaps or pecans. There is no taste of hops anywhere to be found, and it is difficult to call this a beer. As a flavored fizzy beverage the taste is OK when it's really cold, since my tastebuds cannot tell anything but cold liquid is flowing, less OK when it's warmer as the nutty taste gets stronger. It is an understatement to say this is not one of my favorites and not one I will ever come back to, no matter how thirsty I am.
