Brewed and kegged by the Great Divide Brewing Co, Denver, CO. Bought and drunk at the Great Divide Brewery tap house in Denver after walking for some time in uncomfortable shoes, first trying to find the brewery and then returning to the brewery after finding it did not open until 2 pm. I eventually made around 2.30 and found this tiny bar with room for about 30 people and there were already 25 people there. I managed to find a sear at the end of the bar and ordered this beer from the eight beers available that day.
The brewery web site: http://www.greatdivide.com/
The web site says: "Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch Ale is our tribute to the legendary “Wee Heavy” beers of Scotland. This malty, deep-ruby beauty features lots of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile, and a subtle warming character. Unlike its namesake, this beer only requires one hand, but it’ll still make you feel like nobility. 7.7% ABV. Enjoy with: Pot roast with roasted vegetables, seared lamb shank with white beans, bread pudding."
I really liked this beer. My feet were very sore and I was glad of a place to sit and take the weight off them. If I could have put my feet into a bath of warm salted water it would have been even better. The little tap room was a lively place with people coming and going constantly. The talk around the bar was of beer. This beer looked good in the glass, dark but not cloudy with a slight head, and the first taste was magic. Full bodied and flavorful and a pleasure to swallow. The aftertaste left a pleasing reminder of the beer that had just been swallowed. I look forward to enjoying this beer again, though it was not one of the three large bottles I bought back to Houston with me, and that is another story in itself to be told when I drink those beers.
