Beer 385 - Wolaver organic IPA (3 stars out of 5)

Brewed and Kegged by the Otter Creek Brewing Co, Middlebury, Vermont.  Bought and drunk at Le Pain Quotidien in Central Park, New York as we rested and ate lunch after a morning spent walking from the hotel to Central Park, then took a ride on a horse drawn carriage through part of the park before walking through the park to Strawberry Fields, a part of the park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon, then coming across the restaurant as we made our way back towards the park entrance.

The brewery web site: http://www.ottercreekbrewing.com/ mentions that a web site for Wolavers is under construction so there is no information on the Wolavers beers on the web site.

Rate Beer has the following commercial description “This robust India Pale Ale follows British tradition by using bountiful amounts of fresh hop cones to produce a crisp clean character; blending Magnum, Crystal and Hallertauer hops with generous amounts of Munich and Carmel malt.”

The beer was pleasant and tasty and was just what the doctor ordered for the beautiful warm weather in New York.  The beer went very well with the cheese and salami plate I ordered and the several different types of bread that came with the plate.  A delightful lunch and a very much needed rest, only marred very slightly by the pigeon poop that landed on my back from a bird on the gutters just above the table.

The 419 drinkers at RateBeer.com were not impressed by this beer.  (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/wolavers-india-pale-ale/7487/ )  they gave it an average score of 3.03 which puts the beer in alowly 48th percentile overall and 16th percentile in its style of India Pale Ale.

The 247 reviewers at BeerAdvocate.com were a little kinder (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/119/399 ) They gave the beer an average of 3.58 which scores it as a B or good.
