Beer 392 - Brooklyn East India Pale Ale (2.5 stars out of 5)

Brewed and bottled by the Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn, NY.  Bought at HEB in Katy, TX and drink at home in Katy, TX while helping Patricia prepare my birthday dinner of fresh artichokes, four different chesses, three cold meats, tomatoes dirty chips and Korbel Blanc de Noir champagne.

The web site says “Brooklyn East India Pale Ale is inspired by the original East India Pale Ales brewed in England in the early 1800s for the troops in India.

Everyday English ales were spoiling during shipment from London, around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope to Calcutta.  Using extra malt and hops, British brewer George Hodgson developed an ale with the bitterness and strength to endure the long sea voyage, giving rise to a great beer style.  Our East India pale ale is a deep golden beer brewed from British malt and a blend of hops featuring the choice East Kent Golding variety.  It is traditionally dry-hopped for a bright aroma of hops, lemongrass, pine and citrus fruit, a warming malt palate and a clean hoppy finish.  We think Hodgson would be rather pleased. 6.9% ABV”

I didn’t enjoy the beer so much, finding the hops to be rather pervasive and just adding bite rather than taste.

The 1,138 people who have rated this beer at RateBeer.com disagreed with me.. (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/brooklyn-east-india-pale-ale/530/ )They gave it an average score 0f 3.39 which puts it in the 88th percentile overall and the 67th percentile for its style of India Pale Ale (IPA).

834 reviewers have posted notes at BeerAdvocate.com (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45/147) and overall they score it with an average of 3.65 which gives it a B= good overall.
