Beer 372 - Phillips Amber Ale (4 stars out of 5)

Brewed and kegged in Baltimore, MD by the Clipper City Brewing Company as a private label brew for Phillips Restaurants. Served and drunk at Phillips Seafood Restaurant in terminal D in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, GA.

Clipper City Brewing brands its beers as Heavy Seas, their web site is http://www.hsbeer.com/
Phillips web site: http://www.phillipsseafood.com/index.cfm?page=menus&id=17

The Phillips menu describes amber ale as "Phillips own hand-crafted ale developed by Clipper City Brewing Company, Baltimore, MD. Made from English-style hops, this beer is slightly fuller, with a firm malt character and earthy hop notes."

I found the beer to be a nice accompaniment to the deep fried fish in breadcrumbs, served with fries, steamed vegetables and hush puppies. This is a cramped, noisy restaurant, that is dedicated to maximum throughput at the lowest acceptable quality level.  The fish was mostly deep fried breadcrumbs, the vegetables were over-steamed, but the fries were hot and good.  The beer was a tranquilizer to wash down the food and help inure myself to the conversations of the adjoining tables that were - at most - 3 inches away.

There are only a few reviews on other web sites.  Beer Advocate gives a score of B with 9 reviews up to today, Rate Beer with 26 ratings gives it a 45 overall and 54 in its style, I thought it was a little better than these but perhaps that was because I was happy to find reasonable food and beer to while away the time before my very delayed flight departed.
