Beer 240 - Great Lakes Brewing Conway's Irish Ale (4 stars out of 5)

Brewed (and bottled) at Great Lakes Brewing Co, Cleveland, Ohio.  Drank a pint of draft with lunch at the Great Lakes Brewing Restaurant in Cleveland airport terminal C and drank a bottle (bought from the restaurant at the airport) when I got home to Katy this same night. The beer at lunch accompanied chipped beef, cheese and onions (a hoagie sandwich without the bun) and french fries, the beer at night was drunk opening mail while sitting outside on the patio waiting for Patricia to come home from work.

The brewery web site: http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/company/mission has information about the beers, and a high-minded mission statement that they appear to actually live up to.

The web site says the beer's name is: "An homage to Patrick Conway, grandfather of co-owners Patrick and Daniel and a Cleveland policeman who directed traffic near the Brewery for 25 years". The style is "second only to dry stout as Ireland’s other most distinctive brew, red ale was first made popular by the G.H. Lett Brewery of Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland.  Flavor: Notable toasty flavor derived from lightly roasted malt. ABV 6.5%.  Pairs well with corned beef, shepherds pie and stews."

I enjoyed this beer with my lunch hoagie-without-a-bun, the beer had a nice body and great taste on first sip, there were no sharp edges to to the taste, yet the character still shone through, it was flavorful without being overbearing.
