Brewed by the Old Burnside Brewing in Hartford, CT where they brew fine ales in the tradition of their Scottish ancestors. Bought and drunk on draft at Vaughan’s pub on Pratt Street in Hartford, CT while eating dinner with Elaine after a day spent with some very nice people from our new sister company, ITW Permatex.

The web site says ““Ten Penny Ale,” our flagship brew is a smooth, amber-hued mellow version of a Scottish Ale.* (5.6% ABV). It’s a good “session ale” and was awarded “Hartford’s Best Microbrew” for 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009 by The Hartford Advocate’s Readers Poll. This beer is available year-round at your local bar or favorite beer store.
Why “Ten Penny?” My grandfather used to say “You can get a good beer for a nickel, but a really good beer will cost you ten pennies!” (Motto: Work hard, drink well… Ten Penny Ale!)”

I really enjoyed this beer, perhaps it was partly the ambience of being in a reasonable facsimile of a British pub, along with the uncomfortable seats and cramped dining tables. The fish and chips were pretty good, but the beer was excellent. It was smooth, flavorful and just plain nice to drink. A very pleasant taste to start, nice body and mouth feel to the beer and a pleasant aftertaste. This is worth coming back for more.
