Beer 221 - Victory Golden Monkey (2.5 stars out of 5)

Brewed and bottled by Victory Brewing Co, Downington, PA.  Bought at HEB and drunk at home on Sunday afternoon at lunch beans and rice and chicken sausage.

web site: http://victorybeer.com/ has a video clip on the "Monkey Julius" made from orange juice, Golden Monkey beer and sparkling wine.  One to try at brunch this summer.  There are also recipe suggestions on the brewery blog.

The web site says "Strong and sensual, this golden, Belgian-style ale glows. The richness of German malts and Belgian yeast are tempered by a sparkling approach and overall light body. Abundant herbal, fruity notes make this one to savor." But the bottle is more interesting "A magical mystical monkey whose golden soul glows with the wisdom of ages.  This warming, flavored ale is rich in the spirited tradition of Belgian inspired brewing. Our Golden Monkey is both playfully delightful and profoundly satisfying.  Exotic spices from the east round out this global journey to joy.  Get on board this Monkey's bound for glory.  This is a bottle conditioned ale.  9.5% alc/vol.  Trippel ale, ale brewed with spices"

An interesting beer but the flavor, particularly in the aftertaste, is not as pleasant as it could be.  Its not that bad, it's just not a beer I would buy again when there are other choices.
