Abita Pecan Harvest

October 5th, 2011

4 stars out of 5

Brewed and bottled by Abita Brewing Co., Abita Springs, LA. Bought by my friend and colleague Rusty and drunk at home in Katy, TX while preparing dinner of Bison burgers, onion roast potatoes and steamed Brussels sprouts and steamed cabbage. Trying roast potatoes once agin, after getting a lesson on how to cook them properly from Nicola.

Web site: http://abita.com/brews/pecan.php

The bottle .says "Pecan Harvest is an ale brewed with pale, Munich, biscuit and caramel malts and Williamette hops. Real Louisiana roasted pecans are added in the brewhouse and give the ale a subtle nutty flavor and aroma. Crack one open for yourself. Every Abita brew is all natural and handcrafted using the pristine artesian water of Abita Springs, Louisiana that is naturally perfect for brewing. Live it live it. Love it. Wear it. 5% ABV"

The web site says: "Pecan Harvest Ale is made with real Louisiana pecans that have been toasted to perfection. That makes it something really special, because most beers with a nutty flavor or aroma aren’t made with real nuts. The natural oils from the Louisiana pecans give the ale a light pecan finish and aroma.
This ale is excellent served with both red meat, seafood, and no surprise here, it’s also great with nuts! Try Pecan Harvest with Gouda cheese."

I enjoyed the beer, it was clean and crisp and refreshing. There was a string hint of pecans in the nose and the taste, but they were background and added to the flavor rather than dominating. This is a nice beer for Saturday afternoon reading and talking and snacking in the back garden.
