Beer 243 - Duvel Belgian Golden Ale (3.5 stars out of 5)

Brewed and bottled by Duvels Moortgat, Puurs, Belgium, Bought at Randall's Katy as a treat for Sunday afternoon and drunk at home in Katy with lunch and after lunch while watching the NASCAR race from Las Vegas on TV.

the web site: http://www.duvel.be/#/us/en/the_beer has an interesting video on each page to explain the history, the brewing process and even how to pour Duvel.

The bottle says "Refreshing and golden like a pilsner but with the flavor, depth and complexity of an ale, this Belgian favorite has been brewed by four generations of the Moorgat family.  Enjoy chilled (45 - 50 deg0 with discerning friends or good looking strangers."  The pilsner malts, Bohemian hops and unique yeast strain combine to create Duvel's intensity, aroma and allure, and the unusually long maturation process at our brewery ensures a mellow balanced and beguiling flavor.  8.5% ABV."

This was a very pleasant drink.  The beer had a nice body, and a pleasant taste to start.  There were no sharp edges in the aftertaste which was smooth and easy to swallow.  This was an excellent beer but it lacked any special character that would make it stand out from many other excellent golden ales.  I enjoyed the beer and would drink it again, but would not go out of my way to find it.
