Imported Irish beer brewed by Guinness and Co, Dublin, Ireland, this is "Superior beer brewed and matured by traditional methods" bought at HEB in Katy and drunk at home while preparing dinner.
The web site: http://www.smithwicks.ie/landing.html explains the history of Smithwicks and describes the abbey where some of the beer for the Irish market is still brewed.
The bottle says " The brewery at St Francis Abbey in Kilkenny, Ireland has been in operation since 1710. Smithwicks is Ireland's oldest beer, inspired by John Smithwicks original recipe. This beer delivers a distinctive amber color, full bodied taste and ultra smooth finish".
I wish that the beer I drank was the one described on the web site, it may be that there is one beer for the local market brewed in Kilkenny and another beer for export, brewed in Dublin. This beer was nice when it was cold, a nice body and pleasant taste, but as soon as the temperature of the beer got above 38 or 40 deg F, the aftertaste turned a little bitter. So keep this beer cold, and enjoy it while it stays cold.
