Brewed and bottled in New Glarus, WI. Bought back by Rigo from his last trip to the East Coast and drunk at home in Katy while talking in the kitchen with Rigo, who stopped by for a visit after being in Austin for a few days, and Patricia.
The brewery web site titillates with a movie that doesn't play video well on my computer, http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/Beers.cfm?BeerCategoryID=1&BeerID=2
The bottle (and the web site) says "One deceptively spring like winter day, Brewmaster Dan walked home from the brewery, sat down to dinner and said, "Boy, there are some fat squirrels out there. They're running all over the place. I think I should brew a Fat Squirrel Nut Brown Ale." Deb agreed and so another beer legend was born.
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to this bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone. When the going gets tough, remember to relax a moment and enjoy the "Fat Squirrel" in your neighborhood. 5.8% alc/vol," it is also nice that they have recommended food airings for each of their beers.
I found the beer to be pleasant tasting but not memorable. It's body was a little weak, there was nothing really to chew on, so the beer went down smoothly with a little bitterness in the aftertaste, but I would not search this beer out for a retaste.
