What Does it Take for a Label to Influence the Buying Decision? - Coppertail Free Dive IPA

Coppertail Brewing Co. Tampa, FL

Free Dive IPA

An interesting label, with lots of detail.  Evan B. Harris designs their labels.  The objective, apparently, is to have labels that stand out from others on the shelf, labels that are unique and distinctive.  They are that.

There is not much written on the label, most of the available space is taken up with the art.  I must admit the label had no bearing on my decision to purchase this beer.  I chose this beer because it was made in Florida and it was an IPA.  This information was written clearly on the neck label

The Coppertail web site describes the beer as follows “Whether you’re diving for stone crabs under Tampa Bay’s Sunshine Skyway or just wishing you were, this beer’s got you covered. Expect huge hits of citrus and pine aromas layered over a bright malt backbone. Perfect for a day on the water. Style: IPA (India Pale Ale) Flavors: Huge hits of Citrus, Pine Aromas + Bright Malt Backbone Pairs perfectly with: Spicy grilled shrimp ABV: 5.9%”.

The web site describes the label as follows “One free diver with a lobster on his head sitting in front of an underwater TV, eating octopus, while a partying fish and puking seahorse hang out nearby.  Makes perfect sense, right? Not sure why, but somehow, it feels right.”

I drank this beer with a neighbor in the subdivision we moved to a few months ago.  We toasted to new friends and the beer worked perfectly for this occasion.  We both enjoy IPAs and this is a nice example of the genre.  The malt provides balance for the hops and holds them in check.  The hops are still there to provide the slightly sharp taste of an IPA, but they are not overpowering.

A delightful beer that I will buy again. The label should make it easy to find on the shelf.
