Beer 383 - Six Point Sweet Action Cream Ale (3 stars out of 5)

Brewed and kegged by Six Point Brewing Co. Brooklyn, NY. Bought and drunk at Lombardi's Pizza in Little Italy, New York where Patricia, Sofia and I went for dinner. Lombardi's is the first Pizza restaurant in the US. It was opened first in 1915. We had a wait of about 40 minutes after giving our name to the receptionist (reservations are not taken) then were seated at a table downstairs in the wine cellar. There is only one style of pizza and you choose the toppings. The pizza is thin crust with fresh tomato pizza sauce and fresh mozzarella, then additional toppings can be added to the whole or half of the pizza. The other option on the menu is a calzone with the same options as the pizza toppings.

Sofia and I shared a pizza with mushrooms all over and sausage on my half. It was OK, but I would not go back for the food. Patricia tried a calzone which came with a crust that was well done i.e. slightly burnt in places. She did not eat much of the crust and concentrated on the toppings inside.

The web site says “Have you tried Sixpoint Sweet Action?  These are the words that have been whispered between cupped hands in bars of New York City.  This grass roots phenomenon has now blossomed into a city wide force of recognition for this unique and mysterious brew.

What is Sixpoint Sweet Action?

Sweet action is an idea, a concept.  It is a simple representation of what makes beer great – the marriage of barley and hops, in a harmonious balance for your mind, body and soul.  The experience is transcendental.

You must experience it yourself.

Sweet is from the barley malt-maltose-the sugar that coats your tongue like honey and reminds you of the sweet, relaxed side of life.

Action is from the hops-the bittering spice- the herb that brushes your palate clean with every sip and reminds you of the active enegetic side of life.

You have heard of the wonders and magic of the Legend, but have you experience sweet action?  IBU 31-33.  ABV 5.2%”

The beer was pleasant and had a nice taste that contrasted well with the pizza. It was quite well balanced, but was somewhat lacking in body.

The 158 drinkers at RateBeer.com (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/sixpoint-sweet-action/43597/) scored the beer wth a 3.35 average which put it at the 86th percentile overall and the 100th percentile in its style of Cream Ale.

190 people had drunk the beer at BeerAdvocate.com (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10607/22193) and they liked the beer very much giving it a average score of 4.02 which rates it as an A- or excellent
