Anchor Brewing 2011 Christmas Ale

3 stars out of 5

Brewed and bottled by Anchor Brewing Co, San Francisco, CA. Bought at Specs on Fry Road in Katy and drunk at home in Katy, TX. While pondering whether or not we should eat lasagne again (for the third time this week) or make something else for dinner. Eventually the lasagne won out and I heated it up for a final swan song.

A dark and flavorful beer. An interesting taste. Not very hoppy but with a hint of bitterness that was a bit disconcerting among the other tastes. But not to worry, overall it was good and different.

The bottle says "this is the thirty-seventh"our special ale" from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ale's recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with it's seasons, appears born anew."
