Columbus Brewing IPA

3.5 stars out of 5
Brewed and kegged at the Columbus Brewery, Columbus, OH.  Bought and drunk at the Columbus Brewery bar and restaurant in Columbus airport as Byron and I were on our way back to Houston after completing observation and certification of the ITW Global Brands inventory at Wannemacher’s Lima, OH facility.  The inventory was completed yesterday and the counts entered into J.D. Edwards yesterday evening, so Byron and I spent this morning at the hotel in Lima, writing emails to complete the paperwork that we had to do while George certified the count and made the general ledger entries in Houston.   A little before noon, we left Lima and drove the 100 miles to Columbus Easton Town Center where we tried to eat at Mitchell’s Ocean Club, but they didn’t open until 4 pm, so we walked across the road and sat at the counter in the Brio Tuscan Grill, un upscale Italian restaurant.  We ate a very nice – if slightly rushed – brunch, before jumping back in the car and driving a few miles to the airport.
We passed many fields of corn on the drive from Lima to Columbus.  Apparently this area of the country grows corn mainly for animal feed and the corn is left in the field until it is dry.  The cool, wet summer in this part of the country has delayed the drying-down of the corn to the point where it can be stored and there are some farmers suggesting the harvest may not take place until January.
The web site says “IPA. Pale-Orange IPA with Hoppy Bouquet.  Our India Pale Ale pours a slightly hazy, pale orange with balanced malt flavor and finishes with a wonderful flavor and aroma only American hops can provide.  This beer is served unfiltered to retain all the bouquet from the hops.”
I enjoyed this beer and the slight bitterness from the hops added to the depth of flavor.  A nice round, full bodied beer that was a delight to drink, particularly in the sterile airport environment where a little flavor is a delight to cherish.
