Anchor Brewing Liberty Ale

September 4, 2011.

3.5 stars out of 5

Brewed and bottled by Anchor Brewing Co., San Francisco, CA. Bought at Fiesta Grocery Store, Katy, TX and drunk at home in Katy, TX. Fiesta is the latest stop on the supermarket price check. A very nice grocery store with an excellent selection of fresh vegetables and various grocery items from around the world.  Unfortunately they do not yet sell reasonably priced flavored sparkling water, and their cheese selection is a little lacking.  Drank the beer while preparing dinner of fried rice with corn and peas and a beef patty smothered in fried mushrooms and melted cheese.

The bottle  says " SAN FRANCISCO’S famous LIBERTY ALE® was fırst brewed on the 18th of April,1975 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s historic ride. It is still virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world. Liberty Ale is made with the fınest barley malt, fresh whole hops, top-fermenting yeast, pure water, and the simple, natural methods that reflect our exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. It is “dry hopped,” a classic Ale tradition, and slowly completes its fermentation in sealed vats in our cellars. This unique process creates Liberty Ale’s distinctive bouquet and uncommonly delicate, entirely natural carbonation.. 5.9% ABV

Another very pleasant that was easy to drink and nicely balanced and full of flavor that was quite heavily hopped to give it a little bitter finish.

The 2,023 drinkers at RateBeer.com who rated this beer (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/anchor-liberty-ale/47/ ) gave it an average score of 3.58 which puts it in the 96th  percentile overall and the 99th percentile for it's style of American Pale Ale.

The 1,309 raters at BeerAdvocate.com gave the beer an average score of 4.0 which rates an B+ = very good.  (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28/665/?view=beer&sort=latest&start=10  )
