Beer 267 - Three Tuns XXX Pale Ale (2.5 stars out of 5)

Brewed and kegged by the Three Tuns Brewery, Bishops Castle, Shropshire, England.  Claims to be The U.K.'s oldest licenced brewery 1642.  Bought and drunk at the Royal Oak pub and restaurant in the village of Cardington, Shropshire, England.

Derek and Dawn took Patricia, Mum and I to this pub / restaurant for Sunday lunch.  It is about 40 minutes drive from Wellington on narrow country lanes through Ironbridge, Much Wenlock and across Wenlock Edge (where we stopped to enjoy the view) to a small village with a  village hall, a church and a pub and lots of new born lambs in fields near the pub. A really nice country pub with excellent food and a nice selection of beer.  We had Mackerel terrine and crab cakes to start then Derek and I ate game pie containing venison, pheasant, duck and pigeon, Patricia ate Salmon Goujons,  Mum had fish pie and Dawn ate roast beef. We shared carrots, cauliflower, new potatoes and broccoli.  A lovely lunch.

The web site for the beer: http://www.threetunsbrewery.co.uk/beers
The web site for the pub: http://www.at-the-oak.com/

The web site says: "4.3% abv A renowned beer from a recipe passed down by the Roberts family who owned the brewery for several generations; a pale-straw-coloured, premium bitter with simple, light malty-sweetness, delicately balanced with light bitterness of floral, earthy character."

I actually found the beer to be rather watery in body and not very well balanced in taste.  It is not a beer I would come back to try again.
